How long does/will it take me to learn my instrument?
The study of an instrument is best thought of as a journey not a destination. It takes at least ten years to master an instrument. In the meantime however you are still playing and enjoying yourself, just that the level of difficulty keeps increasing. Within 5 years, one usually has a good grasp of the instrument.

The rate of progress is also mostly dependent on several other factors: the age at which one begins to learn, how much one practices and the natural ability of the person.

Do I need to have lessons everyday?
It is never necessary to have a lesson everyday. It is best to meet the teacher once a week or at most 2 times and spend the rest of the week practicing on your own.

How long will I need to practice everyday?
The amount of practice time can vary from 25 minutes to 3 hours! It depends on the age of the student, the level they have already attained, the amount of time they can devote to personal practice and their natural aptitude. One should aim to practice at least 5 days a week. Children will usually not need nor benefit from more than 25 minutes a day.

What happens if I can’t make it to my lesson?
When one registers for lessons, they enter into a binding agreement with the school and the teacher. Lessons missed by non attendance are not made up unless the cancellation was for a reason that the school considers adequate and unless the cancellation was done at least 24 hours to the lesson. For lessons missed for a good reason, the teacher will make up a maximum of 2 lessons per term and the student will be charged for any other.

Can I have lessons in the school holiday?
It is possible to have lessons when The Conservatoire is on its official holidays. One only needs to consult with the teacher and to pay for the holiday lessons in advance.

Do I sit for examinations?
Because of the individual nature of the skill, we do not offer standardized examinations. We do however facilitate the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations in Kenya. These are entered voluntarily by the student and have 8 grade levels before one can attempt the ABRSM diploma. Please go to Assessment for more details.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
